Pine Nut Allergen ELISA kit

Like Brazil nut and Coconut, Pine nuts (Pignolias) are technically seeds, but are typically classified as tree nuts. BioFront’s MonoTrace ELISA kit is one of the few methods available to accurately detect Pine nuts in foods and surfaces.

CROSS-REACTIVITY

The assay exhibits strong reactivity to pine nut (Pinus pinea). At concentrations as high as 100,000 ppm Pecan (0.0020%), walnut (0.0019%), and buckwheat (0.0012%) were minimally cross-reactive. No cross reactivity was observed within other matrices tested including a large panel of tree nuts, legumes, seeds, flours,meats and spices.

RECOVERY

The MonoTrace Pine nut ELISA kit is suitable for the qualitative or quantitative detection of pine nut within cake, cookies, chocolate and ice cream. Chocolate and ice cream extractions required the addition of 5% (w/v) non-fat dry milk (NFDM) to the extraction buffer. This extraction additive is needed for samples containing polyphenols, which include: chocolate, fruits, teas, coffee, red wine and soybean as well as others not listed here. Recoveries were acceptable, according to current AOAC guidelines (J. AOAC Int. 2012). In summary, pine nut was efficiently extracted and detected using the MonoTrace Pine nut ELISA from diverse food matrices.
